What is the JDRF Triangle Intrant?

The JDRF Triangle Intranet site is a content management system (CMS) based built with the using the Joomla website technology.Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don't have to.

How can JDRF take advantage of Joomla?

At Joomla core is a relational database similar to Microsoft Access. It provides the ability to collect and organize information. The benefit of Joomla is that it is already configured to work on the web. Joomla also has a security model that makes it display information based on user login credentials. Joomla is also extensible meaning you can add very small applications to Joomla with a few simple clicks.

With this being said, JDRF can use Joomla to:

  • Track Event Registrations
  • Archive Meeting Minutes
  • Collect Online Payments
  • Integrate with Twitter
  • Integrate with Facebook
  • Integrate with PayPal
  • Publish Videos and content on both JDRF Intranet as well as JDRF Triangle.org
  • Design Forms to Collect User Information
  • And Much More!

While the Joomla framework is free, there are, however, some modules and components that do have a small cost for them.
